Guest Blog: Brain Tumour Research Joins The Neurological Alliance

We are delighted to be joining The Neurological Alliance, particularly as a member of its Research Interest Group, and look forward to finding opportunities for the neuroscience and brain tumour research communities to work more closely together in tackling the challenges that face people with brain tumours and other neurological conditions.

Our vision is to find a cure for brain tumours.

Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer … yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.

Investing in research

Brain Tumour Research is the only national charity in the UK dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours. We are building a network of experts at dedicated Centres of Excellence.

Our Centres provide the most promising scientists with experience, career progression and opportunities for national and international collaboration. This facilitates the development of a strong research base in neuro-oncology and allows for cross pollination of the very best thinking at the cutting-edge research into brain tumours – research which may also have applications in treating other neurological conditions.

We are pleased to join the Neurological Alliance, and to help facilitate collaboration across the neurological community, share expertise and find sustainable research models. Sustainable, continuous research is vital in the search to find a cure for brain tumours.

Campaigning for change

By joining the Neurological Alliance, we’re also putting our voice behind the Alliance’s mission to ensure people affected by neurological conditions can access the right treatment, care and support to meet their individual needs, at every stage of their life.

Brain Tumour Research is a leading voice calling for greater support and action for research into brain tumours.

This year we published our Level Up and Stop the Devastation report, after 112,260 people signed our petition calling for increased national investment into brain tumour research to £35 million a year.

This increased commitment would enable the ground-breaking research needed to accelerate the translation from laboratory discoveries into clinical trials and fast-track new therapies for brain tumours.  Read the report here.
